Insights from Heart Compass

Heart Compass Reading Library

Having the same argument again? Has your teenager pulled away? Do you still find it hard to say no, even when you know you want to? Pick a topic from one of the four libraries or search in your own words. You’ll find explanations of what happens in those moments and examples of how we work on the patterns that keep them going.

How do you work on a pattern that keeps repeating?

Say you want to set a boundary, but you keep agreeing because you’re afraid the conversation will blow up. In the M.S.A. approach, we start by mapping that moment. What did you want to say? What were you afraid might happen? What did giving in cost you? Then we work on letting go of the fear and belief that keep the pattern in place. As you move towards greater independence, you choose a boundary that matters to you, try it in a real conversation, and look at what changed and what you want to do next time.
